AIRLINE
PREFERENCE — The New York Times recently reported
that business travelers are revolting against the discount airlines.
The article quoted a survey that showed 82% of business travelers
preferred traditional carriers. According to the article, this number
is up from last year’s 72% results. For business travelers
frequency and flexibility is more important than price, although
all of the traditional carriers have now matched the prices of the
low-cost carriers.
SWITCHING SEATS — In one
of the most significant trends in air travel, major airlines in
the United States are shifting large numbers of their seats to more
lucrative international routes. International travel, where domestic
carriers are free from competition from low-fare United States airlines,
is surging across the board, led by sharp growth in business travel
to the Asia Pacific region.
BED BATTLE BUILDS The latest
hotel chain to join the battle of the beautiful beds is Four Points
by Sheraton, which said it was spending $13 million to install so-called
Four Comfort Beds in all its hotels in North America by the end
of the summer. Westin Hotels, like Four Points a brand of Starwood
Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, started the bed race in 1999 with
its Heavenly Bed. Other major hotel chains rushed to upgrade beds
and beddings in many of their properties. |
